SCCC Women’sView lecture series has “Faith”

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — The Women’sView Lecture Series at Sullivan County Community College presents “Meeting Faith,” an evening with Faith Adiele, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7 in the Seelig Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.

Adiele is a writer who became Thailand’s first black Buddhist nun. Her lecture will chronicle her journey through life and will feature readings from her various works. She will also take questions from the audience.

According to her website, adiele.com, Adiele is the daughter of a Nordic-American mother and Nigerian father. She was raised in a small farming community in the Yakima Valley (Washington State). Attending Harvard College on scholarship, Adiele received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Southeast Asian Studies. She also holds a Master of Arts in creative writing from Lesley College, and a master of fine arts in both fiction and nonfiction from the University of Iowa. In addition to her ordination as a Buddhist nun, Adiele’s biography states she has been a community activist, diversity trainer and bureaucrat, and has lived and traveled in Southeast Asia, West Africa, Latin America and Europe.
