UNIONDALE, NY — Winning a Section 9 wrestling title is a great honor. It is the end product of countless hours of training and hard work. And no matter what happens after that, when it comes to state competition, Section 9 wrestling titles are something to be proud of. Eldred’s Steve Geiger (140) Division II and Port Jervis’ Dana Presto (152) Division I have each earned that honor.

Both wrestlers were overmatched at the state meet held on February 23 and 24.

Dan Cavalca of Section 8 defeated Presto by the score of 9-5 in the opening round.

Presto wrestled back to defeat John Mitchell of Ogdensburg (Section 10) 15-0 in 3:00, before finally succumbing to Jose Cruz of Fowler (Section 3) by the score of 13-6.

Geiger was pinned by Derek Brenon of Immaculate Heart in 1:34. Geiger lost in the first round wrestleback to Vince Aris of Parker (Section 6) by the score of 9-6.
