Voices of the Irish continue to sound

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance Literary series titled “The Everlasting Voices” continues on Sunday, February 26 at 2:00 p.m., with a reading of two one-act plays by Irish playwrights Geraldine Aron and Paul O’Neill. The afternoon will be facilitated by playwright Janet Noble, a resident of Narrowsburg, NY and New York City.

The plays to be presented are Aron’s “A GalwayGirl” and O’Neill’s “The Brothers.” Aron is a well-known Irish playwright who lives and works in London. Her other plays include “Bar and Ger, “Same Old Moon” and “The Delaney Sisters.” Her latest play, “My Brilliant Divorce,” was produced last year in the West End of London and was directed by Gary Hines.

Playwright Paul O’Neill’s “The Brothers” was presented at the Irish Arts Center in New York City. He currently lives in England, where he continues to write and play music. The plays will be read by actors Peter Rogan, Imelda O’Reilly and Alfred Hyslop.

Rogan’s many acting credits include the Lincoln Center production of Sean O’Casey’s “The Plow and the Stars,” and Shakespeare in the Park’s “Henry V.” O’Reilly has appeared in numerous off-off Broadway productions and was recently cast in “Three Days in Dublin,” a feature film to be shot in Dublin. This year she was commissioned by Mabou Mines as a writer for their upcoming production. Hyslop made his Broadway debut in 1949 in a thriller, “The Shop at Sly Corner,” with Boris Karloff. Since then, he has worked continuously as an actor in theatre and film. Lately he has been directing and producing children’s television programs.

“The Everlasting Voices” series was curated by Mary Greene and is funded in part by a grant from the Literature Program of the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, and from private contributions. Readings will be held in the Krause Recital Hall at the Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main Street, Narrowsburg, New York, and followed by a reception to meet the artists.

Admission is $3.
