THOMAS J. BOWRING, SR
ELDRED, NY Thomas J. Bowring, Sr., a resident of Eldred, died Saturday, January 17, 2006 at the Indian River Memorial Hospital in Vero Beach, FL. He was 65.
The son of the late Charles C. Bowring and Mary Agnes Sims Bowring, he was born March 19, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY.
Bowring was a retired facilities engineer of Pan Am World Airways and Rockrose Development. At Pan Am he worked on construction of the passenger terminal at JFK, the engine test cell facility and the Pan Am Building in Manhattan. He was highly respected in his field. He retired from Rockrose Development as a facilities engineer in Manhattan. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp., having served in Korea.
A family statement said: He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bowring is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Eldred; two daughters, Kathleen Bowring of Holtsville, and Colleen Kent of Vero Beach, FL; three sons, Thomas Bowring, Jr. and his wife Noriko of Highland Lake, Charles of Lakewood, WA, and Bryen and his wife Kerry of Mastic Beach; two granddaughters, Erika Bowring and Kristen Collier and his best friend Alex Schwedemann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Gary Bowring of Irving, TX.
IRENE GILLETTE PAULUS
BARRYVILLE, NY Irene Gillette Paulus, a resident of Barryville and a lifetime resident of the area, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 20, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 71.
The daughter of the late Harry and Ona Liddle Gillette, she was born June 19, 1934 in Matamoras, PA.
Paulus was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
A family statement reads: She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was very talented and creative. She cherished every moment God gave her to be with her grandchildren and they loved every moment with her. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, Donald at home; two daughters, Donna Kramer and her husband H. John of Hortonville, and Holly Benton and her husband Rob of Dover, PA; three brothers, Bill and his wife June of Colorado Springs, CO, Richard and his wife Charlotte of Warminster, PA and Paul and his wife Sandy of Silsbee, TX; two sisters, Barbara Toussaint and her husband Pete of Matamoras, PA, and Donna DeGroat of Matamoras, PA; four grandchildren, Emily Kramer, Gabriel Benton, Samuel Benton and G. Michael Benton; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Monday, January 23, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Port Jervis with the Reverend James Brosius officiating.
Cremation will take place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg, PA.

WALTER H. SCHMALZLE
LORDS VALLEY, PA Walter H. Schmalzle, a resident of Lords Valley and a former resident of Philadelphia, died January 19, 2006 following an illness at VNA Hospice at CMC in Scranton. He was 77.
The son of the late Walter and Agnes Rockline Schmalzle, he was born in Lords Valley.
Schmalzle worked as a truck driver for Unity Stores in Philadelphia until his retirement in 1984. He was a Roman Catholic, a member of the Teamsters Union, a PA National Guard and an avid hunter and coin collector.
He is survived by his niece, Dorothy Eckweiler of Sparta, NJ; a great niece, Carol Sherrier of Newton, NJ; and a great nephew, Robert Eckweiler of Newton, NJ.
He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Wiest.
Services were held on Sunday, January 22 at Teeters East Chapel with the Reverend Stanley M. Eskra officiating.
Interment will be at the Perry-Rockline Cemetery in Lords Valley.
