Film by local artist to be shown in Kingston festival

KINGSTON, NY — A film by local actress and filmmaker Shoshanna Lakhshita, “Dinner at Jojo’s,” will be shown as part of the In-the-Works film and video festival at 7:00 p.m. on January 26 at the Sky-Tree Gallery at 42 Abeel Street.

The festival offers the public a chance to interact with filmmakers, comment on their works in progress, support their efforts, see new films before their release and be part of the creative process.

“Dinner at Jojo’s” was shot while Shoshanna was at NYU Film School in the 1980s. The winner of many awards, the film is about a young woman obsessed with getting rid of a fly in her apartment before her blind date arrives.

After making this film, Lakhshita—who acts the main character—became hypersensitive to a variety of factors in the environment, including cell phones, transformers and anything generating high electrical fields. For the next 20 years, she moved every couple of weeks in search of a healthy home. Now she intends to make a documentary about this journey and “Dinner at Jojo’s” will be a part of it.

Lackshita and her sojourn in the film industry, as well as her expertise in flower arranging, were profiled in an article in the January 1, 2004 issue of The River Reporter.
