Soccer kids reach semifinals at annual indoor tourney

By RICHARD A. ROSS

FEASTERVILLE, PA — While most kids put away their soccer cleats as fall turned into winter, kids who are enamored with the sport continue on with indoor soccer leagues. A group of local kids, who play for a team known as FC America (U12), have been working hard on their skills at their practice venue in Jessup, PA and traveling around to find some challenging competition.

At this year’s Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association (EPYSA) indoor cup, FC America (U12) reached the semifinals before they were eliminated. The tournament, which was concluded on January 14, was won by the Philadelphia Soccer Club but FC America made some noise in the tournament with a first-round 4-2 win over Southampton. Though they lost 3-1 to CRUSA in the second round, they tied Warrington 3-3 to gain the semifinals before succumbing to the Philadelphia Soccer Club.

Roberto Sosa coaches FC America (U12). Local team players include Richard Lander of Narrowsburg. He is joined by teammates who hail from as far away as Scranton.
