Planning paid off for a successful Hawley Winterfest 2005

HAWLEY, PA—You just don’t have 1,500 or more people show up for an event automatically. You have to work at getting impressive results like that, and that’s what the organizers of the 2005 Hawley Three-Day Winterfest did.

Last June, the two co-chairs of the Winterfest, Maura Rottmund, director of the Hawley Public Library, and Jeanne Genzlinger, owner of the Settlers Inn, sat down with a group of volunteers and put together a plan that would bring together a wide spectrum of assets of the Hawley community: the library, the churches, local musicians, local artists, historic home owners, local restaurants, gallery owners, the Ritz Theater, the Dorflinger Glass Museum and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

Barryville’s first tree lighting

BARRYVILLE, NY—The Barryville Chamber of Commerce hosted Barryville’s first Christmas Tree Lighting on December 3. Over 100 people showed up to see the tree illuminated as Chamber president Mark Veeder emceed.

To add to the evening, Santa Claus made a dramatic entrance atop the River Market, accompanied by two of his elves. Hot cocoa and cookies were served and local Brownies and Girl Scouts read “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

Santa comes to the Yulan Fire Department

“Tis the Season”

The first thing a little kid noticed as he approached the Yulan Fire Department building was a brace of outdoor lamps in the shape of a fireman’s helmet. Even in a dense fog, the red glow from these beacons pointed the way toward the huge retractable doors that rolled up and unleashed the famous Seagrave fire trucks that protected our homes and lives.
