Berlin supervisor resigns

Cites lack of forward movement

BEACH LAKE, PA — The chair of the Berlin Township Board resigned last week to the surprise of the other two supervisors, Roger Hector and Robert Mahon.

Phil Dux, owner of Outside Matters Fuel Company in Indian Orchard, quit after serving two years of his second six-year term. Dux made his announcement at the monthly meeting on November 21.

“I haven’t been happy with the direction the township is not taking,” Dux said. “I had an agenda to move forward, and I was the only one who agreed with it. Things just stopped progressing.”

Dux was disappointed when the other supervisors failed to adopt a comprehensive plan for the township. The other supervisors also rejected the idea of developing a multi-municipal comprehensive plan after the township was approached by three neighboring townships—Damascus, Manchester and Oregon.

Dux stayed in office as long as he did so that he would see the creation of a township municipal authority and the completion of a major sewage system for the township, he said.

The township will appoint someone to serve one year but will probably have that person run in next year’s election to complete the rest of his term, Dux said.
