Sullivan thespians bring back laurels from Auburn

AUBURN, NY — The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop, a recipient of several awards from the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) this year, received additional acclaim at the recent TANYS festival in Auburn.

The workshop’s production of “Veronica’s Room” was one of only seven shows from throughout the state to have been chosen to enter the statewide community theatre competition, and earlier this year received three merit awards from roving TANYS adjudicator Joan Fuess: Excellence in Acting for Cass Collins and John Klemeyer, and Meritorious Achievement in Direction to Lori Schneider-Wendt.

The workshop’s production of “Veronica’s Room” received additional kudos during the festival weekend. Rebecca Robbins received a special award for acting from the festival adjudicator, as well as one of four certificates for best actor from the popular vote.

Stage manager Jim Schmidt received a certificate for technical merit from the festival’s technical director.

According to the rules of festival, the stage crew had 10 minutes to transform a bare stage into a Victorian bedroom/sitting room and 10 minutes to strike the set after the performance. The set went up in six-and-a- half minutes, and down in five.
