Prize winners are for the birds

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The Blue Victorian’s second annual birdhouse competition, which coincided with the James Dworetsky holiday parade on Main Street, attracted record crowds on November 25.

Best of Show was a tie between last year’s first-prize winner, Robert Justus of Wurtsboro for his entry Stone Arch, and J. R. Rowley for Rockin’ and Chirpin’. Both Justus and Rowley have donated their prize money to worthy causes. Justus donated his winnings to Jeffersonville Enhances Main Street, the group that works to beautify Main Street, and Rowley gave his prize money to the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department. Each group will receive $100 cash.

Children’s category winners were Max Kotsonis, age six, who won first place for his entry, Glitter House, and McKinley Bernitt, age five, was placed second for her entry Chicken Little House. In the 12- to 16-year-old category, Jason Lubniewski won for his entry Paradise by The Sea. Each first-place winner received a $25 gift certificate.

The birdhouses will be on display in the gallery through January 31, 2006. Some of the entries are for sale.
