Friend of Upper Delaware named as hero
REGION Field & Stream Magazine has named Craig Findley as one of its Heroes of Conservation recipients in its November issue. The award recognizes sportsmen dedicated to the protection of fish and wildlife habitat, and Findley was honored for his work with the Friends of the Upper Delaware River and his advocacy to protect one of the last great wild trout resources in the east.
One of only three selected for the distinction from throughout the United States, Findley is president of Friends of the Upper Delaware River, a not-for-profit conservation organization dedicated to protecting the nationally renowned wild trout fishery comprising the now severely threatened, federally designated Wild and Scenic upper Delaware River and the connecting West Branch.
To correct the flawed New York City reservoir release system, the organization assembled a team of highly prestigious scientists to develop the first scientifically based alternative release system, as well as an equally qualified legal team, and has maintained an ongoing educational program to disseminate the understanding that the current system is a serious and unwarranted threat to a unique wild resource and that there are viable alternatives.
