ARTHUR REMO BIAGI

LEESBURG, FL – Arthur Remo Biagi, a resident of Leesburg since 1970 and a former resident of Greeley, PA, died on October 28, 2005.

Biagi was born in West New York, NJ on December 20, 1922. He was a retired New York Harbor tugboat pilot, a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Leesburg, FL and the Flying Gators club. He built his own plane and loved flying it. He was a Merchant Marine during WW II.

He is survived by his wife, Arvilla D. Biagi at home; two sons, Glen of Greeley, PA and Arthur of Stroudsburg, PA; one daughter, Sharon Edie of Alpine, TX; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 12 at St. Ann’s Church in Shohola, PA at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Paul Mullen will officiate.


LORETTA E. ENGELMANN

COCHECTON, NY – Loretta E. Englemann, a lifetime Sullivan County resident, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2005 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 87.

The daughter of Louis and Marie Rouff Berndardt, she was born July 2, 1918 in Bethel, NY.

Engelmann worked was a homemaker. She was the widow of Clifford Gabriel and Theodore Engelmann.

She is survived by four sons, Clifford Gabriel of Jersey City, NJ, George Gabriel of Bayonne, NJ and Frederick Engelmann of Lock, NY; two brothers, Leslie Covart of White Lake and Alan Covart of Cochecton; two sisters, Carol Galietta of Middletown and Susan Gabriel of Equinox, PA; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Lee Bernardt, Donald Covart and Pater Covart; and one sister, Grace Mullen.

Cremation was held at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY at the convenience of the family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.


WILLIAM L. HISSAM

GREELEY, PA – William L. Hissam, a resident of Greeley, died Wednesday, October 19 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 74.

The son of the late Lucian and Hazel (Major) Hissam, he was born on November 7, 1930 in Milford. He was married to Sandra (Rolph) Hissam.

Hissam was the owner/operator of S&B Neon Milford.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William D.R. of Pond Eddy and James of Edwards, NY; four daughters, Debrorah L. Selnick of Milford, PA, Tammy L. DeGroat of Herman, NY, Laurie L. Hissam of Greentown, Linda L. Emerson of Shohola; his brother, Robert of Matamoras; two sisters, Margaret Lemke of Matamoras and Marge Konhol of Greentown; and twelve grandchildren.

Services and interment took place in Milford Cemetery in Dingman Township and were private, at the convenience of the family.


JOHN J. MEYER

MORRIS, NY – John Jacob Meyer, a 53-year resident of Morris and a former resident of Cochecton Center, died Friday, October 7, 2005 at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin. He was 88.

Meyer was born on October 30, 1917 and spent his formative years in Cochecton Center.

The retired owner of Meyer’s Welding Service, he was a member of the Morris Town Board beginning in 1970 and served as councilman until 1976 when he assumed the position of supervisor which he held until he retired December 31, 1993. He was also a member of the Otsego County Republican Committee and town chairman, a past master and degree master of the Louisville Grange; a former member and honorary member of the Morris Fire Department and a member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris R. Kinkel Meyer; two sons, Kenneth of Troy, NY and John of Jensen Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Alissa of Cooper City, FL, Matthew and Gretchen R., both of Morris; two brothers, Joseph and his wife Maria, and Eugene and his wife Mildred, all of Cochecton Center; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Harry M in 1979 and Henry’s wife Helen who died in 2001.

Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Morris with the Reverend Ann Blair officiating.

WALTER B. STEVENS

NARROWSBURG, NY – Walter B. Stevens, a resident of Narrowsburg and an area resident since 1997, died Friday, October 28, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA. He was 76.

The son of the late Frederick Fields Stevens III and Beatrice Booraem, he was born March 25, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. He was married to the late Doris M. Kunze Stevens who passed away August 31, 2004.

Stevens was a retired U.S. Customs Officer and a graduate of Poly Prep School in Brooklyn, NY and of New York University. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during WWII.

He is survived by a nephew, Christian Kunze of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY and a niece, Victoria Ross of Westport, CT.

Cremation will take place at Maple Hill Crematory in Archbald, PA.


EDWARD BARTHOLEMEUS STRASSER

HAWLEY, PA – Edward Bartholemeus Strasser, a resident of Hawley, died unexpectedly on October 29, 2005 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. He was 64.

The son of the late Elizabeth Schinder and Bartholomew Strasser, he was born in Scranton, PA.

Strasser was a self-employed excavator and a member of the Hawley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacey DeFrancesco of Shohola; companion, Sue Lester of Hawley; three brothers, Bart, Joseph and James, all of Hawley; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Midenstein.

He was predeceased by a son, Christopher and a brother, Richard.

A service will be held at the convenience of the family.
