Sullivan troupe invited to state festival
Benefit performance of Veronicas Room to fund trip to Auburn
SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY The successful 2005 season of the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop (SCDW) will be crowned by a performance of Veronicas Room, on Friday, November 18 in Auburn, NY, as part of the 46th Annual Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) festival. The play is one of only seven chosen from all over the state for this honor.
But along with the prestige of going to statewide competition comes a cost, including the transportation of set pieces, furniture, properties, actors and crew to Auburn; printing of additional programs; and payment of an additional royalty. In order to raise money to help defray the costs, the workshop will stage a one-time encore benefit performance at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11 at the Rivoli Theatre on Route 42. All tickets will be $10 (a $5 savings discount from season prices).
Five SCDW productions (Eamons Wake, The Queen of Bingo, Oliver!, The Cemetery Club and Veronicas Room) earned a total of 16 TANYS Merit awards during the season. Veronicas Room garnered three TANYS awards: Excellence in Acting to Cass Collins, Excellence in Acting to John Klemeyer and Meritorious Achievement in Direction to Lori Schneider-Wendt.
The last SCDW performance to compete at TANYS festival was Agnes of God in 1984.
