Local composer’s musical to be performed in Nyack

NYACK, NY — Award-winning composer Roy Singer, who is a longtime resident of Sullivan County, will have the Rockland County premiere of his hit Off-Broadway musical “Mamaleh!” from Friday, November 11 through Sunday, November 13 at the Helen Hayes Theatre in Nyack, NY. Performances will be at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 3:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

“Mamaleh!” tells of the lifelong friendship between women of different generations. The show has played to sold-out houses and standing ovations Off-Broadway and around the country. With book and lyrics by Mitchell Uscher and music by Singer, this musical is the winner of the prestigious “Shows Your Mother Would Love” competition as well as the “Best Theater Album” honor at the International JPF Music Awards.

Singer is the recipient of multiple “Meet the Composer” grants and has written scores for film and dance as well as theater. In addition to “Mamaleh!,” Singer and Uscher have written two other shows including “The Third Violet,” which was the centerpiece of the landmark Stephen Crane Festival in the Catskills in 1995. The opening number from that show, titled “Sullivan County,” has become the official county song.

This production of “Mamaleh!” will feature the New York City cast that includes Joan Barber, Valerie Hill and Irma Rogers.

Tickets are $45, $39 for seniors and $35 for groups.
