Sullivan West’s Steve Daley finds an opening between Pine Plains defenders Louie Cassinelli (23) and Shane Vankeuren (80) as he runs for a big gain in the Bulldogs’ Homecoming win over the Bombers. This was the first of two league games that Sullivan West will play this season as they vie for a Class C title. They play at Tri-Valley on October 22. A win against Tri-Valley would guarantee the league title and a berth in the Class C sectional game.

Bulldogs shoot down Bombers

Dominant performance versus Pine Plains puts Bulldogs atop Class C

By RICHARD A. ROSS

LAKE HUNTINGTON NY—Playing on the new field in Lake Huntington for the first time ever, the Sullivan West Bulldogs turned a rainy, chilly Homecoming game against Class C Pine Plains into a cause for celebration.

Displaying the kind of dominant football in evidence ever since the team lost (but really won) up at Walton, the Bulldogs slammed down the gauntlet in Class C by knocking off the first of its two rivals. Two weeks hence, Sullivan West will visit Tri-Valley and encounter the Bears, who got on a roll the night before with a resounding win over LMR.

But today it was all about shooting down the Bombers.

Rain-grizzled Bears maul Devil-Cats

By RICHARD A. ROSS

ROSCOE, NY—This was the wrong week for valiant up-and-coming Livingston Manor-Roscoe (LMR) to catch the Bears. Coming off of arguably their worst performance of the year last week against Eldred, the blue and red mavens of the den were nobody to mess with.

The Devil-Cats were hoping to steal a honey of a win on October 7, but they were mauled from the get-go instead, as Tri-Valley’s offense became LMR’s pain in the rain.

Chester edges Eldred in non-league prelim

By RICHARD A. ROSS

CHESTER, NY—For visiting teams, winning a game at the “Enchanted Forest”—Chester’s home turf—is a tall order. Not only is Chester tough at home, but strange things happen down there. Case in point: at a key moment in the October 7 game against Eldred, the lights went out on Eldred’s side of the field, but the game was allowed to continue in the semi-darkness.

Still, for Eldred’s head coach Frank Kean and his previously undefeated hive of Yellowjackets, this game was about proving that they could compete with the defending Class D champs.
