LOUIS BOYD
BETHEL, NY Louis Boyd, a resident of Bethel, died on Wednesday, October 5 at the Seeling Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 77.
The son of the late Lodie and Josephine Ummerle Boyd, he was born on December 3, 1927 in Liberty.
Boyd worked as the lead engineer/diesel mechanic for Local #825 Operating Engineers until his retirement. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Clarence Hoyt Post # 9217, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Liberty and a member of Operating Engineers Local # 825.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Dugan Boyd at home; seven children, Thomas and his wife Miriam of Jersey Shore, PA, William of Jeffersonville, Michael L. and his wife Barbara of Kansas City, MO, Christopher of Jeffersonvile, Jeff and his wife Pamela of Liberty, Craig and his wife Sandra of Jeffersonville and Therese Vandermerlan and her husband Chuck of Ridgfield, CT; a brother, Raymond of Callicoon; three sisters, Betty Eschenberg of Callicoon, Arlene Stoddard of Cornwall-on-Hudson and Eleanor Huggler of Nanuet; 16 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Donald and John, and a sister, Ruth Boyd.
A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, October 8 at the St. Francis Church in Youngsville.
Interment is in the Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville.

ANNA K. DUFFY
GREENTOWN, PA Anna K. Duffy, a lifelong resident of Tanglewood Lakes in Greentown, died October 8, 2005 at Mercy Hospice in Scranton. She was 95.
The daughter of the late John and Lucy Timpson Duffy, she was born in Palmyra Township, PA.
Duffy was a retired owner and operator of her familys business, Duffy Landing and Cottages. She was a member of St. Veronicas RC Church in Paupack and the Wallenpaupack Historical Society.
She is survived by her sister, Frances A. Gilpin of Greentown; a niece, Katherine Blewett of Coudersport; and two nephews, Neal Duffy of Marlton, NJ and Bernard Singer of Hawley.
A memorial Mass will be held at the BVM Queen of Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Richard W. Beck, pastor will officiate.
Interment will be in the BVM Queen of Roman Peace Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the favorite charity of the donor.
DONNA C. (GUNTA) EMANUELE
HAWLEY, PA Donna C. (Gunta) Emanuele, a resident of Hawley since 1987 and a former resident of Yonkers, NY, died unexpectedly on September 29, 2005 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. She was 50.
The daughter of the late Annetta and Joseph Gunta, she was born in New York City, NY.
Emanuele was a homemaker and a Roman Catholic. She was a graduate of Westchester Community College in NY.
She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Ernest Emanuele at home; a daughter, Deirdre Pulido of Stamford, CT; a son, Christian Hagerman of Norwalk, CT; and a grandson, John Nicholas Pulido of Stamford, CT.
Services were held on Monday, October 3 at Teeters East Chapel in Hawley with the Reverend Joseph P. Kutch, pastor of St. Josephs RC Church, officiating.
ROBERT DEAN FISHER
HAWLEY, PA Robert Dean Fisher, a resident of Hawley since 1982, passed away on September 12, 2005 following an illness at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA.
The son of the late Kester and Ethel Birch Fisher, he was born in Albion, IA.
Fisher worked in warehousing for food service. He was affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1944.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Philomena T. Martino Fisher at home; his daughters, Sharon Williams of Frenchtown, NJ and Deborah Potenza of Ramsey, NJ; his sons, Robert Jeffrey Fisher of Hopatcong, NJ, David Blaise Fisher of Hawley and Thomas DeMartino of Bloomingdale, NY; and seven grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
SIEGFRIED W. HERBIG
BEACH LAKE, PA Siegfried W. Herbig, a resident of Beach Lake, died Saturday, October 1, 2005 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was 74.
The son of the late Franz and Anna Koenig Herbig, he was born in Rapenau, Czechoslovakia. Herbig emigrated to Canada in 1952 and to the United States in 1956. He lived in Queens before his retirement in 2000. He was a member of St. Bernards Roman Catholic Church in Beach Lake, a former master of the F&A Masons, Schiller Lodge # 304 in Whitestone, NY, a former Grand Swordmaster of the 9th Manahattan District, and a member of the Lake Wallenpaupack German-American Club. He was a naturalist and one of his great joys was the Wayne County countryside.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Lingenhoel Herbig; a son, Harold of Tubingen, Germany; a brother, Gerd of Holzgerlingen, Germany; a sister, Annaliese Kalinoviski of Deer Park, Long Island; eight grandchildren, Elisa of Oslo, Norway, Samuel of NYC, Leonard of Tubingen, Germany, Helen of Tubingen, Germany, Sarah VonVorse of Schenectady, NY, Nathan of Sidney, New York, Elaine of Sidney, NY and Bryan of Sidney, NY; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia VonVorse of Schenectady, NY.
He was predeceased by a son, Winfred in 2002.
A Christian prayer service was held on Wednesday, October 5 at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home in Honesdale.
A Masonic Service and a Memorial Mass was held on Thursday, October 6 in St. Bernards Church in Beach Lake.

JEAN (HAZEN) KYZER
MILFORD, PA Jean (Hazen) Kyzer, a two-and-a-half year resident of Belle Reve Nursing Center in Milford and a former resident of Hibernia, NJ and Cherry Ridge Township, PA, died October 4, 2005 at the Belle Reve Nursing Center. She was 75.
The daughter of the late Albert and Almira Hazen, she was born in Kimbles, PA.
Kyzer worked as a housekeeper for Best Western in Hunts Landing until her retirement. She was a Protestant.
A family statement said: She loved cooking and working in her garden.
She was predeceased by her husband, Virgil J. Weaver.
Kyzer is survived by her sons, Virgil Weaver of Oak Ridge, NJ and Terry Kyzer of Port Jervis, NY; her daughters, Marjorie Martincak of Pond Eddy, NY, Mary Banghart of Rockaway, NJ, Sally Krill of Branchville, NJ, Diane Conklin of Equinunk, PA, Wanda Sender of Columbia, NJ, Pauline Masker of Port Jervis, NY and Helen Dean of Bakersfield, CA; a sister, Anna Bishop of New Berlin, NJ; a brother, Lester Hazen of Waymart, PA; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many loving caregivers at Belle Reve Nursing Center.
Services were held at Teeters East Chapel in Honesdale on Friday, October 7 with the Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., pastor of Hawley United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment is in the Darling Cemetery in Honesdale, PA.
CLARA A. MECKLE
NARROWSBURG, NY Clara A. Meckle, a resident of Narrowsburg and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, PA. She was 98.
The daughter of the late George and Anna Thone Daub, she was born October 5, 1907 in Cochecton Center, NY.
Meckle was a member of St. Francis R.C. Church in Narrowsburg, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Tusten Senior Citizens Club and the Lava Ladies Auxiliary.
A family statement said: Clara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her specialties were baking, needlework and the flowers in her garden.
Meckle was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Lewis Meckle Sr. who passed away July 6, 1982; two brothers, Fred and Carl Daub; and three sisters, Ann Rutz, Elizabeth Walter and Helen Bernas.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Ann Rutledge and her husband Raymond, Judy Rutledge and her husband Amos of Tyler Hill, PA and Nancy Fraser and her husband Donald of Monticello; one son, Lewis Meckle Jr. and his wife Beverly of Narrowsburg; one sister, Henrietta Pierce of Lake Huntington, NY; 21 grandchidren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, October 10 at St. Francis Xavier RC Church in Narrowsburg with the Rev. William Scully OFM officiating.
Interment is in the St. Francis Cemetery in Narrowsburg.

DANIEL JOSEPH MILLER JR
HAWLEY, PA Daniel Joseph Miller Jr., a resident of Hawley and a former resident of Philadelphia, died October 7, 2005 at home following an illness. He was 59.
The son of the late Daniel J. Miller Sr. and Anne Watson Miller, he was born in Philadelphia.
Miller was a retired Transit Police Supervisor for Southeastern PA Transit Authority. He worked most recently as the Senior Vice Commander of the Honesdale VFW. He was a veteran of the Army, having served as a paratrooper in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War and had been past president of the AFL-CIO in Philadelphia.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Ann (Ruppert) Miller at home; three sons, Daniel J. III of White Mills, William of Wayne, NJ, and Douglas of Hawley; a former wife, Jo-Ann Adams of Levittown; a granddaughter, Danielle Gurst; a brother, David of Bensalem; a sister, Donna Miller of Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held on Thursday, October 13 at Teeters East Chapel at 3:00 p.m.

ALICE MARIE SAARI
HONESDALE, PA Alice Marie Saarie, a resident of Honesdale, died Sunday, October 2, 2005 in Hawley following an illness. She was 66.
The daughter of Alice E. (Fleischmann) Ungerer and the late Walter Ungerer, she was born in Brooklyn, NY.
Saari was a homemaker and a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Honesdale.
She was predeceased by her husband Arvi Oscar Saari in 1992.
Saari is survived by her mother, Alice E. Ungerer of Kokomo, IN and formerly of Hawley; two brothers, Walter and his wife Janet of Kokomo, IN and Eugen and his wife Karen of Williston Park, LI, NY; her beloved companion, Don Wood of Honesdale; two nieces, Cheryl Ungerer of Kokomo, IN and Rachel Pompeii of Long Island; two nephews, Brian Ungerer of Kokomo, IN and Walter Ungerer of Atlanta, GA; two grandnieces, Alex Ungerer and Brian Robinson of Kokomo, IN; and five grandnephews, Nicholas and Reis Ungerer of Kokomo, IN and Ben, Jake and Pete Ungerer of Atlanta, GA.
Services were held on Tuesday, October 4 at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend William Samford, pastor, and Reverend Dr. Walter Ungerer, brother of Mrs. Saari, officiating.
Interment is in Green Gates Cemetery in Hawley.
IRENE SACKETT
CALLICOON, NY Irene Sackett, a resident of Callicoon since 1986, died Friday, October 7, 2005 in Callicoon, NY. She was 92.
The daughter of the late John and Julia McKenna OLeary, she was born October 19, 1911 in Killarney, Ireland.
Sackett was a retired Catholic School teacher and a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Callicoon.
Sackett was predeceased by her husband, Vincent; her brothers and sisters, Michael OLeary, Dan Joe OLeary, Sean OLeary, Mae Albano, Sheila Janaway, Noreen Gallow and Patrick OLeary.
She is survived by two daughters, Michelle M. Schroeder of Callicoon and Irene Reis and her husband David of Wappingers Falls, NY; her grandchildren, Irene Salvati and her husband Jeffrey of South Carolina, Sheila Donovan and her husband Michael of New York City, Jennifer Stimpson of Wurtsboro and Jonathon Schroeder of Callicoon; two great-grandchildren, Renee Salvati of South Carolina and Chenananiah Vincent Stimpson of Wursboro; and two sisters, Pauline White of London, England and Peggy Cronin of Killarney, Ireland.
Services were held on Tuesday, October 11 in Grace Baptist Church in Callicoon with the Reverend Lauren Hertzler officiating.
Interment is in the Calkins Cemetery in Calkins, PA.

WILLIAM JOHN SCHMIDT JR
HAWLEY, PA William John Schmidt Jr., a resident of Hawley, died Saturday, October 1, 2005 from injuries sustained while in a motorcycle accident. He was 21.
The son of William and Norma Jean Bayly Schmidt, he was born in Honesdale.
Schmidt was a Honesdale High School graduate of the class of 2002. He worked as a mechanic at Rusty Palmer in Honesdale. He enjoyed motorcycles and hunting. He spent his time with his truck and his many friends.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Donald Robert, at home; a sister, Heidi Ann Schmidt, at home; a maternal grandmother, Marion Bayly of Beach Lake; a paternal grandmother, Mary Elanor Schmidt of Honesdale; aunts; uncles; and many cousins.
Services were held on Friday, October 7 at the Smith Hill UM Church with Lloyd Canfield officiating.
Interment is in the Smith Hill Cemetery.
BARBARA SELTHAFNER
JEFFERSONVILLE, NY Barbara Selthafner, a resident of Jeffersonville, died October 3, 2005 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 79.
The daughter of Stefan and Katharina Schwetz Seidl, she was born October 3, 1926 in Yugoslavia. She was a self-employed housekeeper and a member of St. Georges Church in Jeffersonville.
She was the widow of Mathias Selthafner.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Martins, Steven Selthafner, Peter Selthafner, Agatha Selthafner, and Barbara Ramirez, all of Jeffersonville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandsons; one step-grandson; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Wednesday, October 5 at St. Georges Church in Jeffersonville with Father Ignatius Smith OFM officiating.
Interment is in the Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville.

MARJORIE AGNES (NANNIE) SOLLER
VIRGINIA Marjorie Agnes (Nannie) Miller, a resident of Virginia and a former resident of Eldred, NY, died Friday, October 6, 2005 in Heritage Hall in Amelia, Virginia. She was 92.
Soller was married to the late William David Soller who passed away on December 17, 1969.
She is survived by two daughters, Ethel May Simonson and her husband Harold of Virginia and Mary Margaret Kunkeli of Barryville, NY; three grandsons, William Simonson of Virginia, Todd Kunkeli of Eldred and Yancy Kunkeli of Michigan; five great grandchildren, Sterling Simonson of Virginia, Katelyn and Erika Kunkeli of Michigan and Ty and Todd Kunkeli of Eldred; and two sister-in-laws, Beulah Soller of Narrowsburg and Alma McLay of California.
Cremation will be in Hillman and Hix in Virginia. Memorial services will be at a later date.
