Franchise hotel emerges from backstage efforts
Flagship to be named at Texas Twp. Planning meeting on October 18

INDIAN ORCHARD, PAFor the last two and one-half years, a group of Honesdale business people have been working quietly to bring a franchise, flagship hotel to the Honesdale area.
Back in 2003, efforts by Stephen Mackle, former owner of Tri-State Sports Center, prepared the ground for the foundation of a proposed hotel.
Since then, this group has been working behind the scenes to make a hotel happen, said Paul Sprague, Texas Township supervisor. I have received word privately that this group of local business people will soon announce the name of the flagship franchise that will run the proposed hotel, he said.

Waynepeace criticizes aggressive military recruitment

HONESDALE, PAAs the war continues in Iraq, a group of residents remains vigilant.
The grassroots organization Waynepeace has made informing parents and students about the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) a central mission.
There has been a growing concern among local parents about the provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act and the aggressive recruitment by the military in our schools, said Waynepeace member Leah Dobrowolski.

Trucks will be limited on Route 209
Congress passage of new bill will restore access

MILFORD, PAThe National Park Service (NPS), which operates two gates that control commercial traffic on Route 209, will begin limiting truck traffic on the roadway beginning November 1.
The stretch of road runs from Bushkill to Milford and parallels the Delaware River. The announcement was made at the Pike County Commissioners meeting on October 5.
