CineArt screens ‘Junebug’

CALLICOON, NY—Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Callicoon Theater will present “Junebug” as the October CineArt feature starting Wednesday, October 19. Screenings will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, October 19 and 20 and at 2:00 and 9:45 p.m. Saturday, October 22, and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23.

“Junebug” is an affecting film that sheds light both on the always surprising nature of in-laws, and the unique culture of the South. Giving an art-film aesthetic to a touching family drama, director Phil Morrison and screenwriter Angus MacLachlan present their first feature, which was shot in their hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. “Junebug” was featured in Dramatic Competition at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, where a Special Jury Prize was awarded to Amy Adams for her performance in the film. In March, 2005, “Junebug” was included in the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Museum of Modern Art’s New Directors/New Films festival. It was the Closing Night Selection of the Critics’ Week section of the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. Roger Ebert of The Chicago Sun-Times wrote of the film: “‘Junebug’ is a great film because it is a true film. It humbles other films that claim to be about family secrets and eccentricities.”

A portion of the CineArt ticket sales plus one dollar per attendee is contributed to the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
