Black Bear festival announces lineup

MILFORD, PA—The 6th Annual Black Bear Film Festival has announced its lineup of independent cinema, historical features, short films and animations, industry insider lectures, environmental film program, children’s activities and opportunities to talk with filmmakers about their art and craft, especially in the main theatre. Festival dates are October 14 through 16; many events are free.

The opening-night film, on October 14, is a sneak peak at Martin Scorsese’s “Brooklyn Lobster,” a bittersweet drama starring Danny Aiello, and funny Jane Curtin, is based on director Kevin Jordan’s actual family business, Jordan’s Lobster Dock in Brooklyn. Gold & Gala Passholders only; no individual tickets.

‘Corpse Bride’ is visually impressive but ultimately inconsequential

It’s strange to bring up, but it must be said that it’s become a tad boring to be simply dazzled by great visuals. It’s always nice to see that animation; computers and technology in general have come so far, but we have come to a certain point in cinema where such spectacular sights have become so commonplace that they should be stepping stones towards greater ideas, rather than the main attraction.

Murder at the Pocono Royale

HAWLEY, PA—The Lakeside Players will take the stage performing an all-original script “Dealt A Deadly Hand – Murder at the Pocono Royale Casino” on Saturday evening, October 8, at the Falls Port Inn & Restaurant, 330 Main Avenue. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with full course dinner and the show to follow at 7:00 p.m.
