Friedman and Parrow at Catskill Artists
LIBERTY, NYNew Works, an exhibition of sculpture and ceramics by sculptor Robert Friedman and potter Chris Parrow, opens Saturday, October 15 and runs through Sunday, November 20 at the Catskill Artists Gallery, 38 South Main Street. The opening reception at the gallery on Saturday, October 15, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., gives art lovers a chance to meet over a glass of wine and hors doeuvres while listening to songwriter John Simon on keyboard. Both Friedman and Parrow live in Neversink and are founding members of the co-op gallery.
Robert Friedman writes: My work consists of standing sculptures and wall reliefs in a variety of materials. They include aluminum, acrylic plastic, wood and found objects. Forms are often derived from nature and its underlying principles of growth, both in the vegetative and animal worlds.
Of his work, Chris Parrow says: Ceramics is an ancient art form from which we learn about the people and cultures of the past. I think all artists are inspired by their surrounding environment as well as the time in which they live. My work has been reflecting nature, through images of landscape and plants, but it is just as possible to be intrigued by a road culvert or a concrete block as a sea shell or a bird. Ideas and visual images initiate the creative process, and then the hands and tools of the artist transform ideas into new works of art.
Gallery hours are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Perennial exhibits include works by the 11 gallery members and numerous consignors that include painting, sculpture, fiber art, ceramics, photographs, woodcraft, jewelry, silk scarves, childrens books and handmade note cards, all by regional artists.
