BETHEL, NY — The Harvest Festival at Bethel Woods will celebrate everything sweet about the Catskills from history, honey and chocolate to golf, skiing and romance this Sunday, October 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. “The Sweet Catskills” Festival is sponsored by Washington Mutual.

Exhibitors will include Tennanah Lake Golf and Country Club; Sullivan County Historical Society on history of Sullivan County and the Catskills; Muthig Farm of Parksville with maple syrup and bird houses made from maple syrup containers; Koroleva Chocolate of Greenfield Park; Kaatskill Life Magazine; Oscar Israelowitz who will sign his book “Back to the Catskills”; Catskill Center for Conservation and Development; Sullivan County Visitors Association; Holiday Mountain Fun Park offering $169 season passes; the Catskill Astronomy Club with telescopes for solar observing; and Morgan Outdoors of Livingston Manor with outdoor gear and hiking maps.

This Sunday’s author is Edith Layton, an award-winning author with more than 30 novels and numerous novellas to her credit. Publishers Weekly calls Edith Layton, “one of romance’s most gifted writers.” Layton will sign autographs, have cover flats of her latest book “Gypsy Lover” on hand, and have older and newer titles for sale from bookseller Hamish & Henry of Livingston Manor.

Musical entertainment will be performed by Will Hoppey of Port Jervis, The Judith Tulloch Band of Middletown and Basket Landing of Hankins.

The “Gathering of the Scarecrows” continues – a Festival tradition featuring scarecrows created by families, local organizations and businesses. A cash prize is awarded for the most popular scarecrow voted by visitors through Columbus Day Weekend. The Harvest Festival, presented by the Gerry Foundation, is located at the corner of Hurd and West Shore Roads in Bethel, NY, across the road from the Woodstock monument, site of the original 1969 Woodstock Festival.
