Sullivan West grad wins music scholarship

LONG EDDY, NY— Vocalist Cheryl Lynn Baker has been selected as the recipient of the Dr. Barry and Jane Bodenstein Music Scholarship 2005 Music Advancement Award of $500.

A June graduate of Sullivan West, Cheryl attends Marywood University in Scranton, PA and is majoring in music education. Competing for this award as a vocalist, she also plays clarinet and piano. She participated in New York State Schools Music Association, All-County and Area All-State events during high school. In her application, Cheryl stated, simply, “I love music.”

The scholarship was established by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County, NY, in memory of the Bodensteins who were both actively involved in community affairs for many years. It is open to seniors at Sullivan West Central School District on an annual basis. Previous scholarship winners include Christian Bowers of Hankins, Joseph Hawker and Cassie Valentin, both of Narrowsburg, and Emily Gref of Jeffersonville.
