Armstrong defeats Trust

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — The Democratic candidate to contend for a four-year term as Sullivan County Sheriff is Frank Armstrong.

Armstrong, once the mayor of Jeffersonville and a retired sergeant and former detective for the Monticello Police Department (MPD), defeated Paul Trust in the September 13 primary. He will face GOP candidate Mike Schiff, a retired state trooper, in the November 8 general election.

Armstrong said he would work to improve morale in the sheriff’s department by opening lines of communication and rely on his political experience to secure grants to improve working conditions. He secured 1,111 votes to Trust’s 637. Retired MPD lieutenant William Lazarus would be his undersheriff.
