Party in a meadow by the river

MILANVILLE, PA—The Delaware Highlands Conservancy will hold its 9th Annual Meadow Party on Saturday, September 17 from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. on the Yeaman Farm on River Road, one mile south of Milanville.

Cultural entertainment will include local folk singer Janet Burgan; Bill Engel performing on the hammered dulcimer; and Malachy McCourt, author of works including “A Monk Swimming” and “Singing by Him Song,” expounding his reflections on life. For those with a naturalist bent, wildlife presenter Bill Cutler, an amateur herpetologist, will bring live native snakes and amphibians; Jen Naugle, Promised Land State Park Naturalist, will talk about local mammals; Daryl Speicher, from the Pocono Avian Research Center, will discuss banding birds for research; and Don Hamilton, with a tank of aquatic life from the Delaware River, will discuss the diversity in the river.

As always there will be a variety of children’s activities including story reading, singing and a kids’ activity tent. And local groups including Alliance to Keep Pike Green, Apple Pond Farms, Bashakill Association and others will set up displays providing information.

Admission is free. All money raised from the day’s activities will help support the Conservancy’s work. For more information call 570-226-3164.
