Malick starts CineArt season

CALLICOON, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Callicoon Theater re-open the 2006 CineArt season September 21 through 25 with The Beautiful Country(R), starring Nick Nolte and Damien Nguyen.

Binh (Nguyen), the son of an American soldier and a Vietnam native woman, is an outcast in his small village and is forced to leave when his aunt’s new husband moves in, taking his place. Binhs travels in search of his lost father lead him first to Saigon in pursuit of his mother and then to America where he searches for his father (Nick Nolte).

Based on a story conceived by producer Terrence Malick (“Days of Heaven”), the film is beautifully shot. Nguyen’s performance is fresh, rendering the melodramatic nature of the material personal and intimate, while the subject matter itself frames the issue of immigration in a story of universal appeal.

Screenings will be held Wednesday and Thursday, September 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, September 24 at 2:00 and 9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Callicoon Theatre. Admission is $7.

CineArt is a partnership between Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Callicoon Theater that promotes and screens independent, foreign and art films.
