LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Proving they can play well against stiff competition, Sullivan West fought furiously against the Goshen Gladiators in the season opener for both squads on September 7. The game was an OCIAA Division II match up.

The Lady Bulldogs came from behind in the first game to notch an impressive 25-23 win, as the match got underway and hung tough. The Bulldogs lost a trio of successive sets by the scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-21. “We played well,” said Sullivan West’s coach, Jen Warner, “but it would have been nice to get the win.”

Goshen (1-0, 1-0 OCIAA) got great play from juniors Concetta D’Alessio and Kerri Gannon. Gannon was Goshen’s top performer, racking up 12 points, 15 kills and 41 digs.

Sullivan West was led by the play of Marissa Lanese, who notched 16 points, five aces, three kills and 20 digs. Michelle Spafford registered 11 points, one ace, two kills, three blocks, 21 digs and 19 assists for the Bulldogs (0-1, 0-1 OCIAA).
