Hawley plans a hoedown

HAWLEY, PA —Keystone Street and Main Avenue will be alive with activity on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2 for the town’s first harvest hoedown. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days there will be seasonal exhibits, contests, face painting and pumpkin decorating on Keystone Street. Antiques and collectibles will also be displayed on Keystone, along with musical entertainment and old-fashioned crafters. There will be more arts and crafts vendors along Main Avenue, and food and beverages including cider and popcorn.

Saturday will feature activities sponsored by the Hawley Public Library, including a book signing by Jordan Sonnenblick, young adult author of “Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie.” At about 1:00 p.m. the program “Through Native Eyes with Frank Little Bear” will be presented, in which a Cree storyteller will present his program with traditional artifacts and dressed in regalia that brings to life the traditional stories, music, dances and history of eastern Native American nations.

On Sunday the special events will include folklorist Saul Broudy, who will present grassroots songs from various regions and discuss how these songs help us identify who we are and where we come from.
