Follow Sullivan’s steps

WILKES BARRE, PA — History buffs will have an opportunity to follow the route taken by General Sullivan of the Continental Army in 1779 on a two-day guided tour to be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 27 and 28. General Sullivan is the individual after whom Sullivan County, NY, is named.

A bus will depart from Elmira, NY at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and will make a pick-up at Wilkes-Barre at 8:30 a.m. The tour will follow the route that Sullivan and his troops traversed 226 years ago, just one year after the Battle of Wyoming. During the tour, a guide will relate the complex history that unfolded at that time in the heart of the Wyoming Valley and surrounding areas. Stops will be made at several historically relevant sites, culminating in a visit to Newtown Battlefield Park’s celebrations of a Revolutionary War Weekend near Elmira.

The bus will return to Wilkes-Barre at approximately 7:45 on Sunday evening.
