Evolutions of a sculptor

NARROWSBURG, NY — “Evolutions; Sculpture and Drawings of Sal Romano” will open Friday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Delaware Arts Center Gallery and the Art Center’s Loft Gallery at 37 Main Street. There will be an opening reception, with music provided by the Ill Winds Chamber Ensemble, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Of Romano’s work critic Robert C. Morgan of Sculpture Magazine writes, “Over the past three decades, Romano has been associated with two disparate physical realities; monumentality and water—the flow of ambiance and water, the evolution of form, flotation, fragmentation and reductiveness.”

Romano has work in the permanent collections of MOMA, the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, the Roslyn Museum of Fine Art and several corporations. “My present process,” he explains, “is a reunification of disassociated fragmented scraps of odd shapes of brass and copper. These are soldered together, allowing variable sizes of open spaces, which are eventually resolved in a variety of completely new and original forms. The theme of my work,” says Romano, “remains complexity and contradiction.”

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The exhibit will run through September 23.
