Casey to retire from Monticello
MONTICELLO, NY Eileen P. Casey, superintendent of schools, has informed the Monticello School Board of her plans to retire effective October, 2006. She will have completed 37 years of service to the Monticello Central School District including the last 13 years as superintendent of schools.
Casey, a Monticello native, started her teaching career as a Kindergarten teacher at the Cooke School and was principal of the Chase School and assistant superintendent of schools before being appointed superintendent of schools in 1993. During Ms. Caseys tenure as superintendent of schools, she led the district through researching, developing, and implementing two major facilities projects. The first resulted in a new 900 student middle school as well as renovations and additions to all elementary schools and Monticello High School; the second, approved by the voters in 2003, provided extensive upgrading of the district infrastructure including replacement of roofs in all buildings, extensive paving throughout the district and the addition of several classrooms to the high school. Casey also received several significant state and federal grants, including the recent Smaller Learning Communities Federal Grant that will provide the district with almost $800,000 over a period of five years to establish smaller learning communities at Monticello High School.
