Glassmakers’ cottages star in documentary

HONESDALE, PA — A locally produced video documentary, “The Glass Cottages of White Mills,” will have its Honesdale premiére from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18 at the Presbyterian Chapel on Tenth Street on the courthouse square. After brief remarks by members of the production team, the video will be screened at 6:30. The program is open to the public free of charge.

Produced and written by Ralph Liberto, this documentary includes interviews with historians, residents and school students interspersed with historic photographs and rare motion picture footage of glass cutters at work in the 1920s.

As the owner and resident of the first cottage built by Christian Dorflinger in the mid-19th century, Mr. Liberto brought a unique perspective to the project: “I wrote the script for the documentary sitting in my dining room overlooking Lollipop Pond. It soon became apparent that an ageless voice was trying to tell the story of the cottages in a truly unexpected and unusual manner. I just had to step back and let it speak for itself and tried not to get in the way.”

The video runs 38 minutes and will be sold in the DVD format at $25, but a special introductory price of $15 is available to those who purchase it at the August 18 showing. For more information call 570/253-1185.
