Cooper Paint sweeps L+B Tack in playoffs
Barnburner series against rival Charlies Angels looms next
By RICHARD A. ROSS
MONGAUP VALLEY, NY The last time that Cooper Paint played L+B Tack on July 19, Cooper Paint needed an explosive final inning outburst to do in Tack, which was on its way to the seasons biggest upset. This time out with the playoffs underway on August 9, Cooper resolved to be less lackadaisical.
Both teams failed to score in the first and were tied 2-2 after the second inning. Coopers Ally McCarthy hit a home run to the opposite field as Tack players shifted left for the right-handed batter. McCarthy came back and hit a triple in almost the exact same spot in the third inning.
From the third inning on, Tack was shut out of the game as Cooper piled on five more runs courtesy of RBIs from Lori Brown, Rocky Irwin, Charish Priest, Amanda Irwin and McCarthy.
In the second game of the series played at White Sulphur Springs on August 10, Cooper blasted L+B out of the playoffs with an 18-3 lashing. That set up a battle between the A Divisions two best teamsCharlies Angels and Cooper Paint. The Angels only lost three this year, and all of those losses came at the hands of Cooper.
