A celebration of wood
MILFORD, PA The first annual Festival of Wood, intended to be a celebration of our natural and cultural heritage of wood, will take place this weekend at Grey Towers National Historic Site. The festival will feature crafts made from wood, workshops and films about wood, and music created with wood. Admission is free and the gates will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13 and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 14.
Crafters and artists from throughout the region will exhibit, sell and demonstrate their crafts, encompassing wood furniture, pipe boxes, Shaker boxes, sawdust folk art, hand-carved sculpture, and more. There will also be childrens activities including birdhouse making, paper and other wooden arts and crafts projects, a Reading Ranger program and a forestry trail hike.
Free music with wood instruments will be provided each day. In addition, there will be a for-pay performance by Ensemble Breve, a group of young instrumentalists who perform with historically informed style and authentic wooden instruments in the Great Hall at Grey Towers at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 13. Tickets cost $20.
