DOLORES MARY ENGLE
NEW YORK CITY, NY Dolores Mary Engle, a resident of New York City, died on Monday June, 20 following an illness. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Louis F. and Matilda C. (Martin Engle), she was born in Tafton.
Engle had a long and successful career as an interior designer with major design firms in New York and later as a freelance designer. She was a graduate of Hawley High School and Pratt Institute of Design in New York. During World War II she served in the U.S. Navy.
She is survived by six nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 11:30 a.m. at Green Gates Cemetery on Route 509 in Hawley with the Reverend Richard W. Beck, pastor of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church officiating.
HARRIET JEAN PAYNTER
GREELEY, PA Harriet Jean Paynter, a resident of Greeley, died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 24 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was 66.
The daughter of the late Harry and Mabel Jensen Parsons, she was born in Damascus.
Paynter was a graduate of Wayne Commercial School and later worked at Gleneyre Greenhouse in Lords Valley where she was head planter for 30 years.
A family statement said: A very helpful woman, she always put others problems before her own. She was a loving housewife and a great friend to many.
Paynter is survived by her husband of 46 years, Arthur Paynter, her sisters, Barbara Whitley, Elinor Eitch and Rita Davis, all of North Branch, NY, and Alice Theis of Tyler Hill; her brothers, Harry and Roger Parsons of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Violet Rapone of Hawley; her dog, Peanut; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Hust.
A funeral was held on Thursday, July 28 at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale with the Reverend Jan Tiebert of Bethany Methodist Church officiating.
