Editor's pick: Photography show
Exhibit of Phil Garfields photography. Fri., August 5, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Central Park Gallery, 914 Church Street, Honesdale, PA. 570/253-5607.
Phil Garfield, a professional photographer who commutes to New York City every week, has been capturing on film objects of the organic world surrounding his home in Damascus, PA for the past five years. As part of the Wayne County Arts Alliances First Friday series, Garfield will display about 20 of his large graphic prints for a one-night show at the Central Park Gallery in Honesdale. Most photos of the exhibit, The Graphic Foto Show, picture organic materials gathered over the past two years on Garfields property. One includes two contrasting sides of a chestnut leaf that Garfield dried for two years. A few prints in the show were produced from a collection of photos taken during a recent trip to South Africa.
Ask Garfield about the philosophy guiding his work, and hell say he simply photographs what pleases his eye.
Is it art? I dont know, Garfield said. If it turns me on, it turns me on.
Once Garfield finishes a shoot, the toilsome process of producing prints that satisfy his eye begins. All are welcome to delight in his work this Friday evening.
