Identifying wild edibles

DAMASCUS, PA —Nathaniel Whitmore will lead an edible and medicinal plant tour at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, at the Whitmore family farm in Damascus, PA. The tour will include many plants that appear on old farms and in gardens as “weeds,” as well as a discussion of mushrooms.

The farm was Whitmore’s great grandfather’s and it now belongs to his parents, Tom and Karen Whitmore. With several generations of local ancestors behind him, Whitmore is interested in the history of his ancestors and their use of the wild plants. He harvests almost all of his vegetables from the wild and is an herbalist in the clinical phase of his training.
