Artists draw at fifteenth RiverFest

NARROWSBURG, NY — On Sunday, July 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Main Street will be thronged with painters, poets, potters, musicians, food vendors, stilt-walkers and even dogs, all celebrating the Delaware River Valley and its denizens, both human and wild, in Narrowsburg’s fifteenth annual RiverFest.

Among this year’s booths will be those featuring the work of painters Todd Anderson, Kenneth Byrne and Roslyn Ross-Hoffman; potters Anthony Biancoviso, Carolyn Duke, and Jill Wiener (Earthgirl); pressed-flower crafts by Sally Estabrook; and soap by Simpler Thyme. There will also be jewelers, rugmakers, dollmakers and more, interspersed with vendors selling refreshments and information booths covering topics from river management to gardening. Even the literary arts will be represented, with a booth sponsored by the Upper Delaware Writers Collective that will present readings from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and offer chapbooks of the organization as well as chapbook and CDs of its individual members and associates. Another booth, an author’s table, will enable visitors to meet local authors including Joseph Freda, Tom Kane, Clara Gillow Clark, Vera B. Williams and Nora Eisenberg.

Entertainment will be provided by a series of special events throughout the day, leading off with a dog parade and contest at 10:30 a.m. Live music will begin at 10:15 with Inner Urge jazz band, and members of the Linemen Bluegrass Band will play in the afternoon. The North American Cultural Laboratory stiltwalkers will return this year as well.

As always, the poster auction, which benefits the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance’s visual arts program, will provide a focal point for the afternoon. It will start at the bandstand around 1:00 p.m. with auctioneer Pamela Moore Epstein taking bids on the five dozen or so artworks created by a diverse group of regional artists.

RiverFest is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce. There is no admission charge.
