‘The Art of Anagama’ coming to DVAA

NARROWSBURG, NY — Susanne Wibroe-Fost, a sculptor and founder of the Lookout Sculpture Park in Lookout, PA, is having a two-part exhibition at the Delaware Arts Center Gallery, 37 Main Street, “The Art of Anagama,” starting on August 5. Wibroe-Fost’s sculptures, which bring to fruition thirty years of her work combining steel and ceramic, will be on display in the downstairs gallery. Accompanying these large-scale floor pieces will be hand-sewn wall hangings. Upstairs in the Loft Gallery, Wibroe plans to bring together works by all the ceramicists affiliated with the Lookout Sculpture Park.

The Art of Anagama exhibit is the culmination of a long journey for Wibroe-Fost, which began years ago when she was a student of the sculptor Peter Voulkos at UC Berkeley. During this time Wibroe-Fost learned to stick and mig weld steel, and tig weld bronze. She was also introduced to the ancient art of anagama wood fired ceramics and went on to eventually meet the Japanese kiln building master Ryusei Arita.

Wibroe-Fost’s current career spans the globe. She lives part of the year in France and is currently preparing for a 2006 museum retrospecitve there. She has had numerous solo and group shows in museums and galleries and has received many grants and awards. Other professional experience includes artist residencies and curatorial work; her work is represented in numerous public collections nationwide and in France, Denmark, Italy and Germany.
