LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY—To the average fan of high school basketball, the roar of crowds during high school basketball games seems as far away as the frosty bygone days of winter. Now, with torpid heat and crackling thundershowers, sports fans are watching Major League Baseball, the local excitement of men’s and women’s softball or the final enactment of little league All-Star games.

Cooper Paint remains undefeated with rout of ICC

MONGAUP VALLEY, NY—High scores are routine fare when it comes to Monticello Women’s Softball League games but Cooper Paint (15-0) has perfected the art of double-digit drubbing of their opponents. Trailing 6-5 in the second inning against International Contractors Corporation (ICC) on July 6, Cooper Paint came to the plate in the bottom of the inning and calmly put up 23 runs.

Losses mount but spirits still soar for Ripken All-Stars

FREMONT CENTER, NY—In an age where the mantra “winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing,” originally coined by legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi is evidenced from little league games and AYSO soccer to the ranks of the pros, it’s great to see that some kids still play for the love of the game.

Sure, winning would be great, but the kids who play for the Sullivan County Cal Ripken All-Stars are still smiling and diving for fly balls despite an 0-4 record in the round robin tournament against more established programs from Orange County.
