River healing
We gather at the river, family and friends, in celebration. One of our members, badly wounded, has come home to begin her long recovery here.
The grass path that carves through shrub-stubbled marshes concludes at the waters edge. In the past, it has always been an easy stroll, frequently made throughout an average day.
But now, helping my sister Amy thread her way with metal walker, we experience a different pace. That small rise becomes a studied climb, this protruding root an obstacle requiring careful consideration.
Eventually, we reach the river and settle into the sensory solace of water and stone. The music of its liquid movement fills our minds as we close our eyes and allow its entrance into our awareness.
Deep healing happens here, as riffles create watery chortles and birdsong punctuates this perfection of watery tones. Hearts made heavy with fear and worry begin to lighten as sunlight dances madly with its fluid partner. Neither will ever grasp or hold the other; their fabulous art is entwinement and release.
We are gifted to witness this mystical vision.
A classic summer breeze blusters through the leaves of these water-sculpted birches under which weve spread our blankets. Foamy bubble clusters driffle by and are spun into ever-evolving designs. We plunge our digits into the chill darkness and are rinsed of lingering sorrows.
Somehow, just being with the river, we begin to heal. Mind mirrors rivers flow and we are transported beyond the sense that reality is fixed in time. The river immerses us in its ceaseless flow. Amys face reflects the serenity of this knowing.
The Delaware River region is riddled with wonderful waterways. Spend time with one of them soon.
