RICHARD W. CLARK SR

SHOHOLA, PA – Richard W. Clark, a resident of Shohola, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 in Huntsville, AL. He was 51.

He was a program analyst for Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ and a member of St. Ann’s Church in Shohola.

The son of Harry and Mary (Crawford) Clark, he was born on November 16, 1953 in Newark, NJ. He married Gail Martinsen on October 16 ,1976.

Clark is survived by his wife, Gail; two daughters, Lisa Clark-Ivy of Longmont, CO and Erin Clark of Shohola; two sons, Richard Jr. and Colin of Shohola; one brother, Harry of Frisco, TX; one sister, Mary Leonard Clark of NJ; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, June 27 at St. Ann’s Church in Shohola with the Reverend Thomas Petro officiating.

Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Shohola.


MARY FRANSKEVICZ

HANCOCK, NY – Mary Franskevicz, a resident of Hancock, died Saturday, July 2, 2005 at the Binghamton General Hospital after a long, courageous battle with diabetes and kidney disease. She was 78.

The daughter of the late Peter and Katherine Mleczo Danowski, she was born October 13, 1926 in Warrior Run, PA.

She was a beautician and the owner of the Village Beauty Shop in Hancock.

A family statement said: “Many others knew her as a fierce bingo player. She would travel miles for a good bingo game. Mary’s other interests included cooking, gardening, crocheting, painting and crafts. Mary leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment to her family. She always put her family first and looked forward to those times when she could have them all at one table. Mary cherished her grandchildren and no matter the situation, her face lit up when her grandchildren came through the door.”

Franskevicz is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edward Franskevicz, at home; three daughters, Barbara and her husband Jim Feehan of Sweet Valley, PA, Audrey and her husband Jerry Dix of Hancock and Judy and her husband Dave Gorton of Greene; a son, David and his wife Beverly of Cochecton; nine grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Jerry Peabody, Matthew Feehan, Gerald Dix and his wife Megan, Aaron Dix and his fiancée Luann Snyder, Scott, Kyle and Kaitlin Gorton and E.J. and Cody Franskevicz; and two brothers, Stanley and Victor Danowski. She was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, John and Joseph Zula.

A funeral Mass was held Thursday, July 7 at St. Paul’s Church in Hancock with Father Michael Flannery officiating.

Interment is in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Hancock.


KATHLEEN MICHELSON

MATAMORAS, PA – Kathleen M. Michelson, a resident of Matamoras and a 21-year resident of the area, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at home with her family by her side. She was 54.

The daughter of the late Joseph B. and Annette M. Sommerville Slattery, she was born on January 5, 1951 in Seaford NY.

A family statement said: “Kathleen was a loving, kind and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.”

She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Stanley J. Michelson at home; her sons, Jeffrey and his wife Sarah of Milford, Scott and his wife Jasminda of Bradenton, FL, and James of Matamoras; her daughters, Annette Kelly and her husband Roger of Shohola and Kathleen Hoffman of Matamoras; her sisters, Maureen Miller and her husband Bob of Ellicott City, MD, Joann Drake and her husband Al of Sugar Loaf and Mary Hendrickson and her husband Bob of Port Jervis; five grandchildren, Nicco, Kristina, Kai, Roger and Zachary; an uncle and aunt, Thomas and Gloria Sommerville of Levittown, NY; and an aunt, Lorraine Fenton of Bellmore, NY.

She was predeceased by a sister, Sharon Ann Husson who died October 17, 2003.

Services were held on Friday, July 8 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis followed by a Mass of Resurrection at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Matamoras with the Reverend August A. Ricciardi officiating.

Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Jervis.

MARIA T. (TARANOVICH) MIRRO

PAUPACK, PA – Maria T. (Taranovich) Mirro, a five-year resident of Paupack, died on Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA following a short illness. She was 52.

The daughter of the late Filamania DeMatteo Taranovich and Joseph Taranovich, she was born in Queens, NY.

She worked as a waitress at Mike’s Pizzeria in Lakeville, PA and was of the Roman Catholic faith.

A family statement said: “She was a loving companion to Brad Huff, a devoted mother and a devoted grandmother to Ronnie and Amber.”

She is survived by her daughter, Krystal Mirro of Ledgedale; two sons, Tony Macaluso of Long Island, NY and Ronald C. Miro II of Shohola; her loving companion, Brad Huff of Paupack; a sister, Deborah Taranovich of Long Island; two brothers, Stephen Taranovich of Long Island and Joseph Taranovich of Queens, NY; and two grandchildren, Ronnie and Amber.

Services were held on July 6 at Teeter’s East Chapel in Hawley with the Reverend Gerald L. Hawley, pastor of St. John Neuman RC Church, officiating.

Interment is in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Paupack.


VINCENT PULICI

HAWLEY, PA – Vincent Pulici, a lifelong resident of Hawley, died peacefully at home on July 1, 2005 after a long illness. She was 77.

The son of the late Joseph M. Pulici and Mabel Kretch Pulici, he was born in Hawley.

He was the owner and operator of Pulici Gas and Oil for 50 years and a U.S. Army Paratrooper from 1948 to 1950. He was a graduate of Hawley High School, class of 1946 and a member of BVM Queen of Peace RC Church in Hawley. He was also a member of the Scrub Oak Hunting Club.

A family statement said: “He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed woodworking.”

Pulici is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sophie G. (Balanovich) Pulici of Hawley; a daughter, Carol Ann Von Hake of Kailua-Kona, HI; two sons, Arno of Seeley Lake, MT and Joseph M of Hawley; a sister-in-law, Peggy Pulici of Hawley; and five grandchildren, Andrew McPherson, Vince Pulici, Chris Pulici, Samantha Pulici and Holly Sullivan.

Services were held on July 7 at the BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Richard W. Beck, pastor, officiating.

Interment is at the BVM Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley.


MARY L. SANDLIN

HAWLEY, PA – Mary L. Sandlin, a lifelong resident of Hawley, died unexpectedly at home on Friday, July 1, 2005. She was 85.

The daughter of the late Charles K. Bomba and the late Anna Hadupiak Bomba, she was born in Scranton.

Sandlin was a graduate of Hawley High School and a homemaker. She was of the Roman Catholic faith.

She is survived by her former husband, William H. Sandlin of Hawley; three daughters, Kathleen Ann Holt of Hickory, NC, Susan Carol Russel of Conklin, NY and Mary Jean Saylor of Hamburg; a son, William C. Sandlin of Hawley; a sister, Ann Kreiter of Hawley; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be at BMV Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley.


YOLANDE (ROSE) SCHMIDT

HAWLEY, PA – Yolande (Rose) Schmidt, a lifelong resident of Hawley, died July 7, 2005 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart, PA following a brief illness. She was 92.

The daughter of the late William and Carrie Miller Rose, she was born in Hawley.

She was a seamstress at Amber Mills in White Mills and a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hawley. She was a member of Willing Workers.

Schmidt was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Schmidt in 1992.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Rolston of Ascutney, VT; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Reineke of Hawley; a niece and a nephew.

Services were held on Sunday, July 10 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend, David Heckler, pastor, officiating.

Interment is at Green Gates Cemetery in Hawley.

ALLAN G. SCULLION

BETHEL, NY – Allan G. Scullion, a resident of Bethel and a 25-year area resident, died Thursday, June 30, 2005 at his home. He was 75.

The son of the late Lloyd and Mary O. Purnell Scullion, he was born July 27, 1929 in Dover, DE.

Scullion was a retired metal lathe operator and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Shaw Scullion, at home; six children and their spouses, Robert and Linda Scullion and Brenda Scullion and her husband Matthew, all of Long Island, John and Judy Scullion of Port Chester, Wendy and Rich Sontag of Arizona, Nancy and Harold Rhodes of Jeffersonville and James and Susan Scullion of the Bronx; a brother, William and his wife Beverly of Delaware; a sister, Patsy of South Carolina; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Michael A. Scullion.

Services were held Saturday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with Pastor Peg Van Siclen officiating.

Interment was in the Kenoza Lake Cemetery.

ROSE MARTHA ULRICH

SUSQUEHANNA, PA – Rose Martha Ulrich, a resident of Susquehanna and a former resident of Hawley, died Sunday, July 3, 2005 and is now with the Lord. She was 79.

Ulrich is survived by her husband, Frances; her children, Arlene Collins and Richard; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Collins, William Collins, Heather Lockwood and Alanna Ketchum.

A memorial service was held on July 8 at St. Johns Church in Susquehanna.

JORGE VENTURA

SPARROWBUSH, NY – Jorge Ventura, a resident of Sparrowbush and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 in Middletown Park Manor. He was 83.

The son of the late Pedro and Margarita Perez Ventura, he was born February 22, 1922 in Manati, Puerto Rico.

He was a retired funeral attendant and former proprietor of Ventura Brothers Store in Puerto Rico.

He is survived by his wife, Paulina Lugo Ventura, at home; four daughters, Gladys Rosa and her husband Angel of Sparrowbush, Maria Garcia and her husband Victor of Middletown, Lisa Nieves and her husband Luis of Leona, NJ and Rosa Maria Ventura of the Bronx, NY; one sister, Juana Ventura of Puerto Rico; several grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Felipe, German, Raul and Pedro.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s RC Church in Port Jervis on July 8 with the Reverend Dennis Dinan officiating.

Interment will be in Cemeterio Altagracia in Manati, Puerto Rico.
