Eldred unveils nature/hiking trail

ELDRED, NY — How about a scenic walk through the woods or a jog along a trail used by the cross-country team? The newly completed nature/hiking trail that traverses three-quarters of a mile was recently opened to the public.

The project involved student design, sign painting, posters and publicity and was made possible by a grant from the Ulster County Environmental Management’s Learn and Serve America Program, the New York State Education Department and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

According to Bob Skibinski, director of the School to Work program at Eldred Central School District, “The entire community from youth to senior citizens will now have a safe, marked course, which is off the road, to walk or jog on throughout the year.”

The trail begins at the girl’s softball dugout and proceeds up a hill, circling the school’s modular classrooms.
