Editor's pick: Artist’s open house

Mixed media at Nancy Wells’ studio

Sat., July 9 and Sun., July 10, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Part of the Catskill Arts Society’s 10th Annual Artists’ Studio Tour. 1809 Cochecton Turnpike, Damascus, PA 18415. 570/224-4192.

A mixed-media artist working as a painter, printmaker, digital artist, photographer, doll maker and sculptor, Nancy Wells will provide an unusual stop along this weekend’s Tenth Annual Artists’ Studio Tour, sponsored by the Catskill Arts Society.

Joining Wells is artist Maggie Ens who will exhibit her “Urban Jungle” necklaces. Of her work, Ens says “Out of the waste stream I rescue a flood of precious content.” Maggie and Nancy first collaborated in creating a 24-foot woven installation “The Dream Twister” that was exhibited at 111 First Street during the Jersey City Studio Tour of 2002.

Adding to the mix of alternative modes of expression will be Marc Sloan, who uses electronics and acoustics available to the modern composer much as the painter or sculptor uses the world of materials. This weekend for the tour he will be displaying a “Panoramic Audio Installation.” On Saturday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sloan will also perform an array of music on bass and electronics, possibly including flamenco guitar, in which Sloan has some of his more traditional training.

Tickets for the entire tour are $10 per person, with children under 12 free. Maps showing the locations of all the artists’ studios are free.
