DVLFL All-Star game

Braves break through to edge Giants for league championship

DAMASCUS, PA — It was runs galore in the North versus South Little League game held on July 1 and in the end the outcome was the same as the Civil War dispute between foes on either side of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Propelled by Jeremy DeGori’s outburst of two home runs, a triple and a single, the North compiled 21 runs to the South’s 10. DeGori, who just missed hitting for the cycle, was named the Most Valuable Player of the All-Star game. Hitting for the cycle means a player hits a single, double, triple and home run all in the same game.

The game followed a thrilling end to the regular season on June 30. A regular season tie between the Tusten Braves and the Cochecton Center Giants led to a playoff. The league does not permit teams to tie for the league title so a playoff took place at a neutral field in Damascus.

Behind the great pitching of Justin Zaccari, the Braves finally unseated the four-time consecutive champ Giants to capture the title. Paul Pierce coached the Giants and Lionel Billard coached the Braves. The North team was comprised of All-Stars from the Giants, Braves, Dodgers and Yankees. The South team featured the All-Stars from the Cardinals, Phillies and the Mets.
