Delaware Valley Miss Softball League All-Star Game

Missy All-Star game provides wind up of a great season

BEACH LAKE, PA — With beaming smiles, brightly colored T-shirts and loads of spirit, the All-Stars from the Delaware Valley Missy Softball League (DVMSL) took to the field at the Beach Lake Community Center on June 28 to play their last 2005 season game.

Team A Team, comprised of players from the first place Mustangs and the Eagles, faced Team B, with members from the Yellow Jackets, the third place Hammerheads and the Timber Wolves. The Mustangs and Yellow Jackets ended the regular season in a tie.

Team A players included Meghan Allen, Samantha Knecht, Amanda Bates, Bridgette O’Brien, Vanessa Bates, Kim Martin, Erin Bergold, Amber McGinnis, Sabrina Campfield, Kathleen Rodriguez, Faith Collins, Julien Schencavitz, Amber Cookingham, Lisa Sepesi and Amanda Goddard.

The Team B All-Stars included Vicky Anderson, Chelsey Metz, Celia Balthasar, Katherine Montelione, Eve Balthasar, Courtney Roche, Krissy Burkle, Kelsey Rutledge, Kate Carton, Lauren Neer, Megan Holbert, Abbey Richter, Alessandra Imbressi, Brittanny Smith, Lexi Lang, Kristen Wingert and Alexis McCarthy.

After playing a scoreless first inning, Team A exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second inning, innocently begun with a single by Amanda Bates. A pair of walks and a succession of singles from Samantha Knecht, Meghan Allen, Kim Martin and Vanessa Bates helped Team A to gain a lead they never relinquished.

Vanessa Bates was Team A’s starting pitcher and Amber Cookingham came in on relief.

Katherine Montelione took the mound for Team B. Lauren Neer and Alessandra Imbessi also pitched for Team B. Team B closed the gap with runs in the fifth and sixth but Team A’s home half of the sixth put the game out of reach. After 9½ innings of play, Team A celebrated the victory.

Eve Balthasar, Erin Bergold, Lexi Lang, Abbey Richter and Julie Schencavitz earned Sportsmanship Awards. Vanessa Bates, Amanda Goddard, Wendy Reynolds, Katelynn Pfiel and Maressa Pykus were honored with the Most Improved Award.

Kim Martin from Team A and Eve Balthasar from Team B took the game’s Most Valuable Players award. First place plaques, won by the Yellow Jackets and the Mustangs, will hang in the sponsoring businesses, Rod’s Taxidermy and C. Neer & Sons RV Sales respectively.

The league expressed their thanks for fields use to the Beach Lake Community Center, the Damascus School and the Narrowsburg Fire Department.

Other team sponsors included EnviroVentures for the TimberWolves, Bob Wood Carpentry for the Hammerheads and KFD Computers for the Eagles.

Sherry Friermuth and Kathy Martin coached Team A. Joe and Patti Roche coached Team . Other DVMSL coaches include Mikki Knecht, Crystal Campfield, Melanie Jay, Katrina Janowski, Ned Lang and Cindy Burkle.
