Senior Recognition Night celebrates Bulldog scholars

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — The Sullivan West Class of 2005 is indeed something special. This group of high achievers in academics, athletics and community service has left a mark on the school and community.

To celebrate the success of this year’s seniors—and to shorten the lengthy graduation proceedings—the plethora of the scholarships they won were announced at a special June 15 assembly in the high school auditorium.

Joseph Winski, Jr. was the recipient of The River Reporter’s first-ever Dynamic Youth Scholarship for showing initiative and leadership and meeting the highest standards as both student and member of the community. With his tireless commitment, Winski has made contributions to Sullivan West athletics throughout all three seasons of the year. The award commends his initiative, perseverance and exemplary character.

Winski also received the Beaverkill Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Patriotism Award, the New York State Board of Regents Scholarship for Academic Excellence, the Western Sullivan United Teachers and School Related Personnel (WSUT &SRP) scholarship, the Billy Moran Academic/Athletic scholarship, and The Jacob E. Gunther III Scholarship for Environmental Sciences. Winski is also receiving $4,000 dollars in scholarship money from SUNY Cobleskill.

Other big winners included Amanda Baum, who won the DAR Beaverkill Chapter’s Patriotism Award, the New York State Attorney General’s Triple “C” Award, the New York Lottery Annual Leaders of Tomorrow Award, the Claire Schultze Memorial Award, the WSUT & SRP Scholarship, the Joseph A Kulakosky Memorial Award, the Anna. M. Todd Memorial Award, the New York State Comptroller’s Certificate of Achievement Award and the Future Blood Donors of America Scholarship. Baum has received $47,200 dollars in scholarships from the College of New Rochelle.

Numerous scholarships were also handed out to Heather Lander, Amanda Martins, Emily Nebzydoski, Sean Kelly, Michelle Rhodes, Natalie Triolo, Edwin Neumann, Cheryl Baker, Jaclyn Bunch, Chanele Cooper, Jenna DiCostanzo and Sabrina Reimer. Jaclyn Bunch, The Women’s Community Club of Cochecton Scholarship, The Alan Gerry Beaverkill Foundation Scholarship, The State of NY Office of the Attorney General Triple “C” Award, The WSUT& SRP $500 Scholarship, Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Award. Jaclyn has received $52,000 from Pace University.
