Steering Tusten with eyes on the future

Ben Johnson says he is ready to update the Town of Tusten comprehensive plan in order to address the developing needs of the local population and economy.

The town last revised the document in 1988, and since Johnson took office in January 2004, the need to revise zoning laws has revealed itself in several ways. But instead of passing new ordinances in a piecemeal fashion, Johnson plans to set up a committee to “really get a feel” for the particular changes needed to refresh the comprehensive plan and make it a better blueprint for the town’s future.

To that end, in the end of July the town will submit an application to the Upper Delaware Council for a technical assistance grant.

Sullivan West residents demand their dues

SULLIVAN WEST DISTRICT—To many residents of the Sullivan West Central School District, the school board’s decision to close the Narrowsburg and Delaware Valley buildings seemed like a hasty one. But despite their feelings, a contingency budget has been passed and the board has voted 5-4 to close two of the elementary buildings.

Attorney promises lively defense

MONTICELLO, NY—A Westchester attorney representing Division of Public Works (DPW) Operations Director Phillip Nicoletti is charging that Sullivan County has been conducting a witch hunt to build a case against his client and that he will reveal that and more to the public at scheduled 9:00 a.m., June 23 civil service hearing at the government center.

Nicoletti was suspended from his $71,919-a year position in late May after three months on paid administrative leave.
