Folk songs with David Wolf and open mic
Sat., June 25, 7:00 p.m. Free. Joan Hills Art Studio, Bethany, PA. 570/253-6824.
David Wolf, accomplished author, poet and folksinger, will sing some of his own lyrics as well as a few familiar tunes by noted musicians such as Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens at the Wayne County Arts Alliances final spring Literary Arts Evening. One hour of open mic is scheduled and anyone who has written a poem, short story or other creative text will have up to 10 minutes to share work.
Educated at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Rutgers University, Wharton Graduate School and Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland, Wolf is the author of Philosophy That Works, published in 2003. Revealing and resolving serious problems beneath the concept of truth is the early focus of Philosophy that Works. In his introduction to the book, Wolf writes, Albert Einstein once mentioned that humanity cannot solve its vexing problems at the same level of thought that produced the crisis. A higher level of thinking will require a philosophic transformation. Thats what Philosophy That Works is all about. Despite postmodern skepticism, a simplistic true and false outlook on reality remains the commonplace of a civilization; this is the level that has produced the crisis.
The book is an intellectual adventure, almost a kind of love story about changing philosophy from a backwater into a river to advanced civilization. The young philosopher, disillusioned with academic philosophies, begins an investigation into the many meanings of truth; he makes a lasting discovery that changes what philosophy itself can achieve and what it can mean. He faces daunting tasks but reconfigures philosophy.
Refreshments will be served. To get to Joan Hills studio from downtown Honesdale, take 191 north for one-half mile. Turn left on Route 670, go three miles and turn right on Ash Street. The studio is located just under one mile on the left.
