Dads team up with kids to fish at 12th annual contest

ELDRED, NY — The Eldred Preserve held its 12th annual father/child fishing contest on Father’s Day, June 19 at the Preserve’s 70-acre Sunrise Lake. The kids got to take their dads fishing for three hours using the Preserve’s 16-foot bass boats. This unique contest, organized by Lou Monteleone, had eight species of fish assigned point values from the hardest to catch hybrid striper worth 100 points, to the simple bluegill worth one point.

Ron and Ronny Wagner from Wyckoff, NJ were the winners with a mixed bag of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and bluegills. All the kids caught fish and really enjoyed spending quality fishing time with their dads. Trophies were awarded to the top three winning teams. The Eldred Preserve will be holding this event again next year.
