Monticello Gymnastics Exhibition honors 50th birthday of legendary coach Pedro Tweed

MONTICELLO, NY—For the past 28 years, Pedro Tweed has touched the lives of countless kids. Tweed, who coaches at the Monticello Gymnastics Club, is about to celebrate his 50th birthday and in his honor, his fiancé, Caroline Hayes, arranged for many former gymnasts to surprise him at this year’s 21st annual gymnastics exhibition held at Monticello High School on June 10.

Tweed knew something was up and asked former gymnast, now turned assistant boys’ gymnastics coach, Todd Brasington, what was going on. Brasington’s less than convincing attempt at a clueless answer confirmed Tweed’s premonition that his fiancé and his daughter, Amanda, were plotting something for his birthday.

They gave it their all

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY – The season is over now. No more formal practices or upcoming meets loom ahead for the vast majority of the county’s track and field athletes but for those serious about fall cross-country, the clock is already ticking. As any track and field athlete can tell you, being successful is a product of year-round training.

Awards

Bulldogs’ sports awards denote athletic excellence

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY—Words and pictures were a fitting tribute to Sullivan West’s spring athletes on June 7. Superintendent Alan Derry referred to the gathered athletes as “a special group,” while noting that “those who fail to take risks do not find out about themselves. This group of athletes “ truly answered the call in the heat of competition.”
